Instructional Focus

Our INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS statement (revised September, 2007):

The instructional focus of Lansdowne School is reading comprehension with links to writing. Through school-wide teaching strategies, all students will show measurable growth in reading and writing.  Student success will be measured through the use of HLAT's and interim measures.

During the 2006-2007 school year, Lansdowne teaching staff:

  • continued to use the best practices of Multiple Intelligence Programming and Graphic Organizers in all classrooms.
  • supported 100% of students to participate in our home reading program - we are very pleased with our results. See below!
    • 100% of our students have read for 25 nights
    • 100% of our students have read for 50 nights
    • 93% of our students have read for 75 nights
    • 84% of our students have read for 100 nights
    • 73% of our students have read for 125 nights
    • 64% of our students have read for 150 nights
    • 46% of our students have read for 175 nights
    • 42% of our students have read for 200 nights

  • participated in three instructional walk-throughs at District Schools, one of which was hosted here at Lansdowne.
  • collaborated with District staff at Youngstown School in an effort to build expertise in best practices to improve student achievement (regular teacher collaborative sessions).
  • explored the possibility of participating in professional development with our partner school in the area of writing.
  • attended District training as an Instructional Leadership Team, and brought information back to staff to share.
