    School Philosophy

Lansdowne School exists to facilitate Kindergarten to Grade 6 education focused on developing students into well-rounded learners. We take an open approach to learning that encourages students to be curious, engaged, motivated, and secure with themselves.

We believe in inclusive learning that supports students’ unique backgrounds and experiences. We facilitate community building within and outside of our school, and our students understand the importance of their role as community members.

We foster a welcoming environment that provides learning opportunities focused on developing well-rounded children with a global perspective. Students leave Lansdowne School with a better understanding of who they are and the confidence to pursue their interests as they move through their educational journey.

    School Values

Learning — we embrace rich learning environments. Knowledge is gained through different experiences that don’t just come from books and computers. We believe learning should encompass the academic, social, creative, and physical and mental wellbeing of a student’s development.

Community — whether it’s within the walls of our school, or outside of them, fostering a culture of belonging and inclusivity is second nature at Lansdowne School.

Inclusivity — we recognize and embrace the uniqueness of each student at Lansdowne School. Diversity of background, thought, and experience makes our school a richer place to learn.

Responsibility — we are respectful, welcoming, and kind. We hold ourselves accountable and acknowledge we have a duty to be good global citizens.

Safety — Lansdowne School is a safe space. Students, teachers, staff, parents and visitors feel welcome and secure. Each member of our community feels safe to express themselves and grow and learn to achieve their best.

Our small size is our strength…

Lansdowne School is located in Southwest Edmonton in the community of Lansdowne. We are focused on students in Kindergarten through to Grade 6 and draw from the local community and surrounding communities. In the 2022-2023 school year we are excited to be opening the Cogito Program alongside our Regular Program.

Built in 1968, Lansdowne School has a rich history as a diverse community of students, teachers, staff, and parents. Lansdowne School has had as many as 41 languages spoken among its population, exposing students to the vibrant multicultural fabric that makes up Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada.

Over the years, Lansdowne School has maintained a modest-sized student body drawing from communities around Edmonton, that’s continued to develop the school’s “small town” feel. A safe place where everyone watches out for each other, Lansdowne School is a friendly, caring tight-knit community where learning is fun and friendships are long-lasting.

With thriving learners, exceptional teachers, and a welcoming student body, Lansdowne School is a secure place for children to learn. With a focus on inclusivity, diversity, creativity, and knowledge sharing, Lansdowne School believes in education that supports the development of children into well-rounded global citizens.

We have a dedicated parent and community of volunteers who support our students' learning and celebrate the involvement of a strong School Council and Parent Advisory Council (Parent Association of Lansdowne Students - PALS).  We are proud to share school space with the Lansdowne Child Care Family Centre and Lansdowne Out of School Care.

Lansdowne School offers the following in programming:

  • Kindergarten to Grade 6
  • French as a Second Language in Grades 4 to 6
  • Dedicated Music teacher
  • Strong home-school collaboration
  • Emphasis on Character Education and Restorative Practices
  • Levelled Literacy Intervention

Principal's Message

At its very core, Lansdowne School is a community. We are a place for students from all different backgrounds to come and learn, explore, and forge lifelong friendships. Within the walls of our school, you’ll find a “small town” where everyone knows your name. With a population of approximately 130, our students aren’t one in a sea of many—they’re one exceptional person, recognized as the individual they are.

Within our school community, we nurture diverse learning opportunities to create well-rounded students who are socially and environmentally conscious. We meaningfully incorporate global perspectives into learning and encourage students to become critical thinkers who respectfully embrace a diversity of opinions. Students feel free to express themselves and explore new ideas, channel their unique creativity, and discover more about themselves as members of a global community.

Learning at Lansdowne School means being part of an inclusive place that embraces you exactly as you are. We value the ongoing support of our parents and community members. We believe that students, parents, and staff working together create our strongest educational team. Students leave our school with a better understanding of who they are and the confidence to pursue their interests as they move through their educational journey.

As an open boundary school, Lansdowne School is honoured to welcome new families from across the City of Edmonton. We are currently accepting new students for the next school year and would invite you to get in touch to learn more about what our school and community have to offer.

We look forward to working with your children each day and celebrating their successes as we support them in their journey of life-long learning.

Yours in partnership,

Janice Anderson
